You know you spend entirely too much time with technical support for various hosting companies, service providers, etc on behalf of your clients, friends and family when:

  • The rep recognizes your voice before you identify yourself (twice in the last three weeks with different companies)
  • You know a rep’s real name and read their blog even though you’ve never interacted with them outside of their role as a rep (three times in the last two months).
  • You find out you knew a rep from real life during the course of a support call (twice in the last year; one gamer from my MMO days and one person I knew in college).
  • You’ve physically and unintentionally met a rep you’ve dealt with only on the phone or internet in a non-technical setting (once in the last year).
