Virtual Housecleaning

I came across a huge stockpile of old LARP related data on my computer (and subsequently my Blackberry). Old emails about SI & KG along with tons of personal notes for various characters. It was kind of nostalgic seeing those bizarre theories, proposed inventions, diagrams, stories and treatises. Many were worth a good chuckle (for how right or how wrong they were). Others I regretted never having gotten around to, after all who wouldn’t want to build their own steam powered bicycle or LARP-safe rail gun? In the end, however, its all just disk space so I cleared it out and made room for new pursuits. Overcoming the urge to be a physical pack rat is in some ways easier and in other ways harder than being a virtual one. While the “delete” key is less effort than the garbage bag, virtual clutter has a way of hiding out better and seeming less intrusive.

I tend to collect detritus of that nature as well, but I find that it tends to inspire new ideas when I go and read it later. What I’ve been doing is putting it up on Google Docs, that way I don’t have it cluttering up my computer, but I can access it later if I want to.

Yeah, that probably would have been the moderate thing to do, but I have to admit, I get a rush from decluttering, purging and minimizing. 🙂
