Database Issues

Woke up this morning to see the “Error establishing connection to database” message instead of the usual smiling, happy face of Cafe Arcane.  This is (and apparently was) caused by the infamous MySQL “too many connections” issue that some of you have probably encountered before.  While being on a shared hosting plan is very economical, it also makes diagnosising this error somewhat more complicated.  Its entirely possible that the problem is not with me but with a run-away query at the hosting service or even on another account on the same box.  In fact, to my knowledge, only ONCE has the “too many connections” been my fault, so not much to do except report the issue to the host, allow them to reset the connection and track down the offending process (and person).  If its me, which I rather doubt, then I’ll have to dig deeper.

As always, as Cyberduck is so found of saying (in a pitiless tone), “Back up early, back up often.”  🙂
