The Rule of 20: My Personal Pedestrian GuidelinesPosted on March 1, 2009 by Mystech in JournalViewed: 542 times
Even before I lived in a city that was decidedly “parking-hostile” I had started trying to walk everywhere within reason rather than walk. This primarily consisted of Work, Groceries, Coffee Shop and other reasonable errands. I’d never codified the way I chose whether to walk or drive, but here goes.
I’m callling it the Rule of 20:
- If it’s within 20 blocks, walk
- If I’m carrying less than 20 lbs, walk
- If it’s above 20 degrees F, walk
