My opinion of this book really evolved during the course of the reading. I went knowing that it was heavily inspired by Neil Gaimain’s Neverwhere, but it felt almost TOO inspired at first. Eventually, however, Un Lun Dun found its own voice and diverged. The “ab-city” concept proves to be a particularly seductive one, and even without an extensive knowledge of real world London, I found myself deciphering the references and enjoying the analogies in Un Lun Dun. Though technically Young Adult Fantasy, I think it could be enjoyed by readers of any age. If you have children, it might also make a great “mutual read”.
