I think I enjoyed this one better than Grann’s other book, The Devil and Sherlock Holmes, not because the core topic was better, but because Z has so much better pacing and didn’t run out of juice half way through. Also… as I’ve always contended, while I love nature, the rainforest is designed with the singular purpose of turning human beings into parasite-laden, malarial-stricken, jaguar chow.
