Cohutta Wilderness Hike

Sunday I took off for a long hike in the Cohutta Wilderness area.  I decided to link together a few of the trails into a rough loop (mostly the Hickory Creek Trail and Panther Creek Trail).  All told, probably around 18 miles in 6 hours.  Despite the recent drought, several streams were still running nicely (albeit obviously low).  Panther Creek Trail in particular requires countless stream crossings.  Even the most ardent boulder hopper will eventually given and just wade through the icy waters as a break to the balmy heat of Georgia in September.

I passed a few campers heading home from weekend expeditions.  I assume some were there for the trout, which were readily visible if you approached the deeper stream beds quietly and in to the sun.

A few short videos and photo gallery after the cut.

streams, the enemy of all golfers. fish, saute lightly with dill and lemon, serve with a bold wild rice and a crisp steamed green of coice.
