Rock Town Day Hike

Saturday morning, Cyberduck, Ranch_Medicine and myself drove up to Pigeon Mountain (just outside of Lafayette, Georgia) to hike around Rock Town (not to be confused with Rock City). It’s a collection of oddly eroded and impressive natural rock structures you wouldn’t expect to find in Georgia, and certainly not nestled away on this unassuming ridge. The drive wasn’t as long as I’d remember it from past trips an aside from some confusing road construction and an ambush by ill-mannered dogs, we made really good time. The park service has apparently also resurfaced the forestry road up to the Rock Town trail head. In the past, this road was nearly as eroded as Rock Town itself and not for the faint of heart or low of ground clearance. The weather was gorgeous, although a bit more windy than expected.

    Hi.

Is number seven completely natural? It looks so.. GEOMETRIC! Who took picture nuber 9? *grin*

Yup, every one of those structures is natural and result of the softer sandstone eroding at a different rate than the intervening iron ore rock. All the pictures with yellow time/date stamps on them were taken by my friend Ranch_Medicine. The pictures without time/date stamps printed on them are mine. This one is one of my favorites:
